Simple steps to care for your cashmere sweater

Cashmere Care - Simple steps for your knits

Whether you found your quality cashmere knits new or preloved, taking good care of your woolens will ensure they stay in pristine condition for winters to come. Follow these simple steps to keep your cashmere sweaters looking fresh and as good as new.

Handwash Inside Out

Hand wash your cashmere knit inside out to avoid fluffing, in cold or lukewarm water.  Hot water will shrink the yarn and set in stains. Add approved delicates detergent.  Gently squeeze suds through the fabric, taking care not to rub, wring, or stretch your garment. Rinse well and gently squeeze out as much excess water as possible.

Drying Process

To dry, lay your cashmere piece flat on a towel and roll both garment and towel. Lightly apply pressure so the towel can absorb any excess water.  Leave flat to dry, away from direct sunlight or heat sources.

De-Pilling

Signs of pilling is not related to poor quality. Even the highest of quality cashmere pills.  Invest in a pilling brush - it will become your new bestie! Gently remove pills by laying your garment on a flat surface, comb in one direction from top to bottom.

Storing your knits

Between wears, keep your beloved knitted jumpers flat and folded. Hanging your cashmere will stretch it out of shape.  At the end of the winter season, wash & completely dry your cashmere before folding and keeping in a cotton storage bag, or box.  Hang either sandalwood or cedar wood blocks near your cashmere. This will deter moths while keeping your garments smelling lovely and fresh.

We hope that these simple tips can help give you more confidence in caring for your cashmere knits, so you can get the joy out of them for many seasons to come.
